Set Your Affiliate Marketing Goals

Before you can start to build your affiliate marketing business, you need to know where you are going. Setting goals is an important part of determining your game plan. Your job, right now, is to decide WHY you want an online business. More specifically, you need to identify the major reasons for starting your business.

Are you doing it just to make money? Do you want to help other people? Or is it a desire to "make a name" for yourself? It can be any combination of these, or maybe none of them. Only you know the why. And only you can decide which steps you think are important enough to take to reach your goals.

Here is your first task: Write down the reasons YOU want to start an Affiliate Marketing business. Write down how much money you want to make. Be specific - but be reasonable. If you say you want to make $50,000 in the first week, sorry...it ain't gonna happen!

Make a list of five to ten reasonable goals that you want to achieve. Set at least one major goal for one year, one for five years, and one for ten years. Go ahead...I'll wait!

Now, organize your list by category, and then give them a priority. Is this essential, desirable or optional? TO YOU. Want a new car? How important is it? Want to get noticed? How badly? Only you know the answers to these questions.

Look at each goal and write down why this goal is important to you. Be honest. Don't worry. I won't peek! This will be your motivation to follow your plan. You have to WANT it, and want it badly. If you don't, drop it and don't waste your time.

Now that you've determined what you want, and why you want it, write it down. One short paragraph should do it. This will be your mission statement. Put it on a 3x5 index card and post it near your computer screen. I have even gone so far as to create a Visual Picture. I love the ocean. My visual picture is a photo of the ocean off the coast of Oregon where my husband and I plan to retire. I added a picture of us with glasses of Champaign and I have my big motivator!
